Migraine Headaches

Migraine headaches can be very debilitating and may affect family, work, and social life.  Symptoms may include a severe progressing throbbing headache usually on one side of the head but may be on both, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, preceding visual or other symptoms known as an aura, and may last from 24 to 72 hours.  Women are more likely than men to have migraine headaches.   Migraine headaches may have very distinct trigger factors such alcohol, chocolate, lack of sleep, etc.

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are headaches commonly described as pressure headaches, mostly around the forehead and temples, occasionally around to the back of the head, and are not associated with any other symptoms such as those that occur with migraine headaches.  They are also known as stress headaches and may appear periodically (“episodic,” less than 15 days per month) or daily (“chronic,” more than 15 days per month).  They are often brought on by stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, poor nutrition and fatigue.

Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches are headaches that occur regularly and frequently for a period of time and then remit for a while before returning, thus cluster throughout the year.  They are usually on one side of the head, and are associated with any combination of the following symptoms: eye tearing, nasal congestion, red eye, etc. on the same side as the headache.

Other headaches

Other headaches may occur, including secondary headaches caused by medical conditions such as Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), Thyroid diseases, Neck pain, Teeth Pain, and others.
